Daniel Seth Yaniglos

Daniel Seth Yaniglos, of Kent son of Drs. David and Stacia Yaniglos, went to a better place on October 28, 2009. Daniel was born March 7, 1983 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. He graduated from The Kent Roosevelt High School in 2002 with Honors. He graduated from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2006 with a B.S. in History. He was a life-long member of the Kent Presbyterian Church.

Dan loved playing ice hockey. He started skating at the age of six with Tri-County Youth Hockey. He eventually played on the KRHS Varsity Hockey and the Kalamazoo College Club Hockey teams. With his younger brother, Tom, he was known as one of the “Yanigli” by his teammates at Roosevelt. As a defenseman, Dan will be remembered for some of his punishing checks.

Dan also loved camping and backpacking. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Troop 257, Kent, Ohio. While a Scout he backpacked throughout Pennsylvania, at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and Isle Royale, Michigan. He canoe trekked in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. Dan, whose trail name was Salamander, thru-hiked the 2,175 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 2007. In 2009, Dan and Tom hiked the entire Long Trail of Vermont.

Dan was an avid reader and student of history, always able to add to a discussion on historical topics or current events with well-researched information, insightful opinion and lively debate. He was loved for his generous nature and his willingness to always lend a hand no matter how heavy the work.

Besides his parents, Dan is survived by his brother Tom of Philadelphia, PA; aunts and uncles, Suzanne and Tom Tewell of Atlanta, GA., Irene and Tony Matlak of Avon Lake, OH and Janet Yaniglos and Clyde Morris of Girard, OH; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Kathryn Yaniglos of Youngstown, OH, and George and Gladys Snyder of Bellevue, OH.

Calling hours will be at Bissler’s Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St., Kent, OH on Friday from 6-8 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM at the Kent Presbyterian Church on Saturday.
