It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel "Danny" Zertuche, who left us on July 18, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on May 23, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas, Danny's life was one of dedication, passion, and a vibrant spirit.
Danny dedicated his life to the fire department for over 30 years, becoming a familiar and beloved figure in the community. His life was devoted to helping others, and he was always ready to respond in times of need. His devotion to protecting others was matched only by his love for music. As a member of the firefighter band, he visited local schools, using music to teach children about fire safety in a fun and engaging way.
Over the years, he sang and played the drums with numerous bands bringing joy to those around him with his rhythm and talent. Whether caring for his dogs, performing on stage, jamming with friends, or skydiving in Hawaii, Danny was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms. He was never one to shy away from new experiences.
Danny was loved by his family, friends, and colleagues. He is survived by his siblings: Leo Zertuche Jr. (wife Lucia), Raul Zertuche (wife Kateri), Ruben Zertuche (wife Filomena), and Stella Peña (husband George). He also leaves behind numerous cousins, friends, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his Firefighter Brothers and Sisters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo Sr. and Estella C. Zertuche, his beloved sister Eva "Cha Cha", and his sister-in-law Dolores.
Danny's legacy will forever live on through the countless lives he saved and touched, the music he shared, and the courage he displayed in his years of service. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit remains, reminding us to live with the same free and fiery passion that defined his life.
Rest in peace, Danny. Ápa always said you were "Puro Fun." We know you're having puro fun in Heaven! Say hi to Áma, Ápa and Cha Cha for us. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
