Daniel Jacob Ziegler III, known as DJ to all, passed away on June 15, 2024, after a lengthy and courageous battle with health issues.
DJ's career was spent serving the City of Gulfport in many roles from the early 1970's until his retirement as Harbor Master in 2011. He was always diligent to "get the job done" no matter how big or small it was. He worked tirelessly along with many others in the City's recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina. DJ was also very glad he could help with the design and rebuild of Gulfport Harbor.
DJ was known for his love of community and his generous, giving nature. He volunteered his time and talent to many and loved giving little surprises to adults and children alike just to bring a smile.
DJ is predeceased by his parents, Daniel Jacob Ziegler, Jr. and Dorothea Fayard Ziegler; and his sister and brother-in-law, Daniell Ziegler Harb and Richard Harb. DJ is survived by his lifelong love, Denise; brothers and sisters, Darrell Ziegler, Terry Ziegler, Julie Snipp, Loretta Robertson, and Mary Cordray; his beloved nephews and their families, Richard Harb, Jr (Kelly), Scott Harb (Jacynta), Greg Harb (Stacy), and Michael Daniel Snipp; the children of his heart, Sadie, Jake, and Rosie Bertucci; his beloved goddaughters, Julie and Laura Grace Ritten and Kim and Sadie Bertucci.
DJ and his family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and medical personnel at Memorial Hospital for all their wonderful care throughout his courageous battles. If it is something you would like to do, a donation to your favorite charity would be a meaningful tribute to DJ's memory.
And in DJ's own words "Thank you for this beautiful day!"
