James Daniel Blalock, 63, of Good Hope, GA, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 26. Visitation will be Friday July 28, 2023 at Lord and Stephens, WEST from 9:30-10:00 A.M. for family, and from 10:00-10:45 A.M, for the public. A graveside funeral service will follow at Thomas Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
Danny, or Dano as his Mom lovingly called him after a character in her favorite TV show, was born at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA, on August 20, 1959. He attended school in Danielsville and graduated from Madison County High School in 1978. After high school, Danny joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX, where he served in the 43rd Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment until he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.
After the Army, Danny returned back to Danielsville to live and work. He met his wife and love of his life, Patricia (Pat) in Athens. Danny and Pat have been together for 43 years and married for 34. They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Danny's birthday in August. Together, Danny and Pat had a daughter, Danielle, who was Danny's greatest love. From the moment she was born, family members said she was the light of his life. Danny was looking forward to becoming a Papa and welcoming his first grandchild in September; she will carry on a piece of him in her middle name and he will always be with her.
Danny never met a stranger, and people who knew him would say that he would give someone the shirt off of his back if they needed it. He was always willing to help others and had a kind, giving heart. He loved to watch old western movies, sing, fix things, and spend time outside and with animals. He won a number of trophies for showing champion coonhounds and other hunting dogs, and was a gifted horse rider who could always tame even the wildest unbroken horse because of his gentle spirit.
Danny was preceded in death by his Pa, Ernest (Gene) Blalock; Papaw and Mamaw R.L. and Bertha Stoyle; sister Delores (Dee) Looney; father- and mother-in-law Ned and Joan Stone; brother-in-law Ronnie Stone; and sister-in-law Dianna Bramblett and her husband Dennis.
Danny is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter Danielle Barefoot and her husband James of Tucson, AZ; mother, Robbie Blalock of Comer; siblings Barry (Susan) Blalock of Colbert, Arlene (Jim) Berger of Milledgeville, Bradley (Angela) Blalock of Carlton, and brother in law John Looney of Greeneville, TN; nieces and nephews Kristle Willoughby, Mary Ryann Ivie, Michelle Edwards-Collins, Brad Bramblett, Zac Cox, Amanda Blalock-Merritt, Ryan Blalock, Amanda Necessary, Ron Stone, and Holly Berger; and many other family and friends who he loved dearly.
