Danny Wayne Hocutt
November 21, 1948 – August 26, 2025
Danny Wayne Hocutt, 76, died after a brief illness at the VA Hospital in Durham, NC. Danny was born Nov. 21, 1948, to the late Paul and Clara Hocutt. Although a Native of Johnston County, the homestead and farm he built in Johnston County was one his greatest achievements. Danny was an active member of Baptist Tabernacle Church in Wendell, NC and a 50-year member of the Wendell Masonic Lodge. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam, also retiring from Sears after 30 years of service. Danny is retired local volunteer fireman and was an active member of Little River Fishing Club as well as Zebulon Fishing Club. Danny loved fishing with his buddies and most of all making people smile with his boisterous laugh, followed by many wonderful stories.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jean McLean Hocutt; sons, Nathan Hocutt (Kimberly) and Benjamin Hocutt; grandchildren, Shendi, David (Elizabeth), Lydia, Titus and Lane; great grandsons, Elijah and Carter; sisters, Paulette and Debra; brother-in-law, Joe; aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He is preceded by his parents.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and medical staff at the Durham VA Hospital, in particular the MICU unit where Danny received his care and also a special thank you to the Prayer Warriors of BTC.
Funeral Service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Baptist Tabernacle Church, 1599 NC-231, Wendell, NC 27591, with Pastor Glen Brock officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends for Visitation from 3:00pm – 4:00pm, prior to the service.
In Lieu of Flowers, The Hocutt Family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, BTC Youth and Children's programs, and Saving Grace Programs.
