Danny Lee Laney, age 70, of Athens, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. He loved detailing and taking care of his cars. He enjoyed fishing and camping or just being by the river; he loved the outdoors. Most of all he loved being with his family; his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, James Woodrow and Martha Edwina Laney; sister, Patricia (Carol) Laney; brother, Eugene Laney; and brother-in-law, Bob Ogle. Survivors include his children, Eric Laney, of Knoxville, Stephanie Roulette, of Louisville, Richard Laney, Danny McTaggert, both of Knoxville, Josh Hendricks, of Swaney, GA; grandchildren, Ethan Laney, Madison Laney, Melina Laney, Hunter Martin, Bryson McTaggert, Tatiana McTaggert, Izzy McTaggert, Kensley Key; great grandchild, Broady Fox; siblings, Lila Laney, Donnie (Rebecca) Laney, Ralph (Darla) Laney, Sharon McKune, Judy Ogle; sister-in-law, Debra Laney; nieces who he thought of as daughters, Tina Laney, Diana McMinn, Tanya Hess, Nicole Johnson; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 8:00 P.M., Friday, Biereley-Hale Chapel. Pastor Scott Cardin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
