Danny A. Lewis, 68, of Pampa, passed away on November 1, 2024, at his home, with his family by his side, after a battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Pastor Mike Stevens, officiating. Burial and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lewis was born in Pampa to James A. (Abe) and Mildred Kyle Lewis. He attended Pampa public schools, Amarillo public schools, and a year at Peacock military academy in San Antonio. He spent half of his senior year at Alamo Catholic High School in Amarillo before returning to Pampa where he later graduated. Growing up, he enjoyed his time on the family farm with his grandparents, Joe H. and Leta Farrington Lewis, and spending time with his grandfather G.H. “Skinner” Kyle. Skinner always had a horse colt around he had traded for that “needed some manners taught to it”. I guess you could say he was quite familiar with the hard work required of farming due to the fact that as a youngster he frequently rode in a blanket padded wooden box tied onto the top of a 16ft Graham-Hoeme chisel plow while his Dad drove the tractor.

After high school, Danny married Jeffie Suttle and went to work farming in Pampa with his father for 25 years where he raised his family. He served on the board for the Gray/Roberts County Farm Bureau and was a supporter of the 4 -H program. For several winters he also worked at Moody Farms Feed Yard, Heaton Feed Yard, and looked after wheat pasture cattle with his friend and neighbor Bob Rhodes. Mr. Lewis also leased a ranch on the North Fork of the Red River and ran cows, took in wheat pasture cattle, raised replacement heifers, and raised and sold quarter horses.

Later in life, due to declining health, and with the help of his great friend Billy Klapper, he took up a new profession show casing his artistry as a Texas Style bit and spur maker where he made pieces for Roy Cooper, George Strait, and many other cowboys and cowgirls. He enjoyed having his booth at bit and spur shows at Abilene and Amarillo. Danny was proud of his family’s heritage as one of the first families to settle in the Gray/Roberts County areas and was interested in cowboys, Indians, and the western way of life in general as was showcased by the Apache moccasins he regularly wore.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his sister, Grazia Moser of Pampa, daughter, Kasia Shelton and son-in-law, Bud of Wildorado; son, Grayson Lewis and wife, Kate of Colorado; grandsons, Sayer and Sage Bledsoe of Wildorado, and Abram Lewis of Colorado, and by a nephew, Steve Moser of Irving, Tx.

A special thanks to his friend and neighbor of many years Donna Davis, Hemphill County Hospice, and the close friends that preceded him in the journey to the hereafter.
