Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford
Mr. Danny Mooney, 78, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at his home in Oxford, Mississippi. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Church Grove Cemetery in Oxford, MS. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Danny was born on March 18, 1947, in Oxford, where he spent most of his life. After high school, he was drafted by the United States Army, serving our country for 6 years, two of which were fighting in the Vietnam War. After he got out of the military, Mr. Danny went straight to work. Throughout his life, he had such an incredible work ethic. It was as if he had no quit in him. He would work from sun up to sun down, and if he finished one job he would immediately look for another. He worked as a commercial refrigeration technician for most of his life while farming on the side. He had a deep love for farming and the outdoors, and his place of peace was always on the tractor.
Mr. Danny's work habits did not only apply to his own work. He had such a big heart, and he would drop everything to help anyone in need, even if it meant putting his work on the back burner. This calm and relaxing demeanor he displayed seemed to even give him a special connection with animals. It seemed that they were always drawn to him and immediately trusted him. Mr. Danny was also a very straight forward man, and you never had to wonder where you stood with him. He lived his life as a faithful Christian and was a proud member of Taylor Baptist Church. He was an incredible husband of 55 years to the love of his life, Joy Brown Mooney. He was also an incredible father; however, his grandchildren were his true pride and joy. Danny was a shining example of how a man is supposed to carry himself in any role a man may take. He was a light to so many lives, and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Danny is survived by his loving wife, Joy Brown Mooney of Oxford; his three sons, Glen (Amy-Lynn) Mooney, Jeremy Mooney, and Derek (Holly) Mooney, all of Oxford; four granddaughters, Aubree Mooney, Lila Mooney, Maggie Mooney, and Haddie Mooney; one grandson, Max Mooney; one sister-in-law, Harryette Mooney of Oxford; and two nephews, Rob (Lisa) Mooney and Jamey (Patti) Mooney, both of Oxford.
Mr. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, James Murry Mooney and Marie McCain Mooney; and his brother, Jimmy Mooney.
Donations and memorials in honor of Mr. Danny Mooney may be made to the donor's choice of the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate), the Lafayette High School FFA (c/o Lafayette County School District; 100 Commodore Dr., Oxford, MS 38655), or the Church Grove Cemetery Fund (324 CR 321, Oxford, MS 38655).
