Darin Scott Wheelock

Darin Scott Wheelock, 55, was born September 7th, 1970 to Daniel and Evelyn (Hazen) Wheelock. He passed away December 12, 2025 at his home after a fall. He was born in Oklahoma where his father was a pastor, later moving to Indiana, then Joliet IL. Growing up, he was always the protector of his little sister. He drove her to Joliet Central High School when he was a senior and she was a freshman in a car that died during most turns. He graduated from Joliet Junior College. Not quite the car guy his father was, he really enjoyed one of his first cars, a huge pink Cadillac from the 70s. He enjoyed buying his mother perfumes and purses-always brand names she wouldn't have chosen for herself. He loved shopping and bought his sister her prom dress and flashy shoes, always the tallest of heels. He was a very empathetic, loving and generous person. He would give his last dime to those in need and saw the humanity in the down and out. He held many jobs, but was especially good at call centers and customer service in the Chicago area, Florida and Missouri. Most recently, he worked as a unit clerk in a hospital. He had many struggles in life, but was loved unconditionally by his parents. Ultimately, he was not able to live without them and they are together again.

He was preceded in death by his mother 2 months prior and his father in 2023. He is survived by a sister, Danette (Joel) Neikirk, nephews Jared (Luciana) Neikirk, Alex Neikirk, and niece Katelyn Neikirk. He was especially close to his aunts, uncles and cousins on his father's side and former church members from Joliet Nazarene church. Burial will be at a later date in Saranac, MI
