Darleen Schott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Feb. 19, 2025.
Obituary of Darleen Schott
Darleen Schott, 83, of Washington Twp, NJ, passed away on February 17, 2025 and is now with Jesus after a two-year battle with cancer. Darleen was very generous to anyone in need, but she especially cherished her family and friends.
Born November 12, 1941, in Morristown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Christian Richard and Evelyn Margaret (nee Licitra) Schaare. She graduated from Washington High School and was named Outstanding Female Athlete in her class. She graduated college from East Stroudsburg University with a teaching degree in 1965 and began her career as a part time physical education teacher at Brass Castle Elementary School. She then began full time at Long Valley Middle School where she enjoyed a 36-year career teaching and counseling young students. While teaching, she received her Master's Degree in Human Development at Farleigh Dickinson University.
She also pursued her Master's of Divinity from Drew University. When she retired from teaching, she was appointed to the Changewater and Montana United Methodist Church and ordained a Deacon in the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. Her parishioners enjoyed her sense of humor and looked forward to her weekly joke before the sermon. She went on overseas Mission Trips to Cuba, Israel, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Russia doing God's work and helping those in need.
She lived in Washington Township her entire life but was a snowbird and lived in Venice, Florida during the colder months after retiring. Her generous spirit led her to volunteer in many organizations in Florida, such as the Salvation Army, Hospice Thrift Store and the Habitat Restore. In New Jersey, she was a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, Hackettstown Hospital, Hunterdon Hospice, Hope In The Hills and Chaplain at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She also started as an original member of the Washington Youth Association, was 2010 Soroptimist Woman of Distinction, past President of the Methodist Women and served for many years on the Washington Township Recreation Committee. She also belonged to the Washington Twp Seniors and the Oxford Young at Heart group. She enjoyed going to the movies, dinner and shopping with her "Golden Girls" friends: Judy, Pam, Kay, Carol and Brandy.
She is survived by her children, Milene Draper and Brooks Schott and daughter-in-law, Mary Schott. She has six grandchildren, Jocelyn Buttice (Dominic), Lauren Collins (Chris), Lindsey Coyle (Tyler), Nicole Andariese (Evan), Reece Schott and Chase Schott, as well as six great-grandchildren: Penelope, Leo, Jackson, Addison, Colby and Caylen. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her son, Bart Schott and her brothers: Christian, Menett, Robert, Arthur, Albert and Allen Schaare.
A memorial service celebrating Darleen's life will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 11:00AM at the Washington United Methodist Church, located at 116 East Washington Avenue, Washington NJ 07882. Relatives and friends will be received from 10:00AM until the start of the service in the church. Arrangements are under the care of Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Washington NJ. Wayne and I have such fond memories of Darleen. We were always happy to see her whenever we'd meet up with her be it the movie theater or at Habitat Restore. She always had kind words for us. Gone too soon but memories of her will last forever.
Sincere condolences to her family and friends,

I'm saddened by the news of Darlene's passing... we were classmates at Drew Theological, and became quick friends having a few evening classes together. God bless the family and my sincere condolences. Pastor Eusun Kim
