ANDERSON, IN – Darlene M. (Closser) Cox, 84, entered peace and rest on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from Morrison Woods in Muncie following an extended illness.
She was born on September 10, 1941, in Anderson to Charles and Lois (McCord) Closser. She has lived in the Alexandria/Anderson area most of her lifetime. Darlene was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1959. She received an associate degree from Southern Adventist University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a case worker in the food stamp division of the Indiana Department of Welfare in Madison County for 25 years, retiring in 1991. Darlene was formerly a member of the Southern Heights Christian Church in Anderson where she served as pianist and organist for 47 years. She was an avid bowler and participated in leagues in all the Anderson bowling alleys for 40 plus years. She was a member of Anderson La Societe de Femmes of the 40 & 8 and the Red Hat Society. Darlene was an avid reader, a Mounds Mall walker and enjoyed all kinds of music. She will fondly be remembered as a social butterfly, an obvious person who never met a stranger. She was always there for everyone else.

Grandchildren-Amber (Thomas) Durr, Aubrey Charron (Tyler Riley), Jeff Arnold, Shawn Chapman, Macey (Jake) Mitchell, David Cox, Doug Cox and Dean (Pauline) Cox, Jimmy Wayne and a host of others who affectionately called Darlene "Grandma."

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 36 years-Gilbert Cox in 2019, 5 Siblings-Virginia and George Dunder, Florence and Russell Witham, Jean and Harry Johnson, Gilbert and Betty Closser and Frank Closser.
Services honoring Darlene's life and legacy will take place at 11 am on Monday, December 22, 2025, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Jearme Ousley officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Alexandria. The Cox family will receive friends from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2025, in the funeral home.
