Darlene Burkepile Ish, born January 21, 1953, died January 14, 2023 at age 69, after a brief stay in hospice care. She was born in Springfield OH to Floyd Elsworth Burkepile and Esther Claire (Mathers) Burkepile. She graduated from Springfield North High School in 1971, and from The Ohio State University in 1977. Darlene was married to Timothy Carl Ish of Columbus OH in July of 1977. After moving to Orange Park, FL in 1989, she received her Elementary Teaching Certification from the University of North Florida in 1995 and served as a substitute teacher in the Clay County (FL) Schools from 1997 to 2017.
Darlene enjoyed singing in choir at church, playing canasta with neighbors and friends, and vacations on the beach with family and friends. She was often known to sip a Chardonnay or her favorite Long Island Iced Tea. She took her coffee black and her steak well done, and sang karaoke to Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.
Long-time members of St. Giles Presbyterian Church of Orange Park FL until their move to Nocatee FL in 2018, Tim and Darlene had recently attended services at Crosswater Community Church of Ponte Vedra FL.
Darlene is survived by husband, Tim; daughter, Vanessa Marie Ish of Seattle WA; and son, Brandon Carl Ish of Portland OR. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Smith of Lyndon OH. A celebration of life was held at the Artisan Lakes Amenities Center on January 17, 2023, followed by cremation at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home.
