Darlene Joan Rominger, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 4, 2022, in West Union.
A Memorial Service will be held later this Spring. The time and date will be announced.
Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Gundersen Palmer Hospice in West Union.
Darlene was born December 26, 1932 in Valley Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Hobart and Bertha (Thompson) Wimmer. Darlene was raised in Des Moines where she graduated from Roosevelt High School. On May 16, 1951 Darlene married Robert Rominger. They lived in Atlantic, Des Moines, and Winter Park, Florida (for one year). In 1970 they moved to Iowa City. After Bob's retirement, they enjoyed spending the winter months in Mesa, AZ.
Darlene was employed at American College Testing for 26 years, retiring in 2006. Darlene was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and T.T.T. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, enjoyed playing bridge, and she and Bob were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Connie (Ron) Saboe of West Union; her niece, Kathy Metcalf (Andy Riddle), whom she raised as her daughter; her grandsons Michael Saboe and Jeffrey Saboe; and her brother Ralph Wimmer, and nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; her siblings, Barbara and Harold; her nieces, Linda and Debbie; and her sisters-in-law, Sherry and Trudy.
