Darlene Jane (Gray) Varner, 77, of Meadowlands, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 9, 1947, in Washington, PA, a daughter of the late Harry Allen and Ruth Etta (Hatfield) Gray.
Darlene worked as a caregiver for many years, but she was most proud of raising her family. She loved to read her Bible, play scrabble with family and friends, coloring her books, doing word searches, and spending peaceful moments feeding the deer. Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and matriarch of her family.
Darlene was the beloved wife of 32 years to the late James Richard Varner, Sr. who passed away in 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann (Thomas) Nickel; six grandchildren, Ben (Brittany) Winters, Missy (Matt) Headlee, Whitney Morgan Varner, Wilhelmina Delphine Varner, Becky Nickel (Raji) and Carrie (Joseph) Young; eight great-grandchildren, Bentley James and Bellamy Winters, Ava and Wyatt Headlee, Dillon (Amber) Nickel, McKayla Nickel (Cameron), Cassie (Daniel) Smith and Joey Young; three great-great grandchildren, Nyne and Malley and Brooklyn; a sister, Betty Jo Pirie (the late James Sr.); two brothers, Richard Gray (Pam) and Carl (Betty) Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Darlene is preceded in death by her son, James R. Varner, Jr. (Dr. Gina Marchando Varner, survives) and a brother, John (Patty) Gray.
Family and Friends are welcome at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211), on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. with Pastor Michael Singo officiating.
