Darrell Dullnig Obituary

Darrell Lee Dullnig, known affectionately as Darrell-and lovingly called Uncle Bub, by his sisters and family, and Papa by his children-passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 81 in Kingsland, Texas. Born on the first day of 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Darrell's life began as a herald of the new year, being the first child born in the city that year. His journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family, his country, and the virtues of discipline and simplicity.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe August Dullnig and Irna Christine Rokohl Dullnig, and by his sister Shirley Maxine Goodman.

He is survived by his devoted daughters, Andrea Christine Zimprich, Lisa Diane Wilkerson and her husband Craig, and Shelly Leah Dullnig; his cherished grandchildren, Quincey, Alexis, Erin Nicole, Kayla, and Ryan; his sister Margie Faye Caraway; his former spouse Sue Blais, also many beloved numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Darrell served his country with honor as an Army Veteran in the Vietnam War from August 30, 1963, to August 29, 1969. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and responsibility that he carried into his civilian life. Darrell's work ethic was evident in his career as a buyer in the semiconductor industry, his entrepreneurial spirit in running a lawn mowing business, and his many side projects. Despite a busy and productive life, he always remained focused on providing for his family and ensuring their well-being.

Darrell's personal life reflected his lifelong devotion to health, fitness, and activity. Always athletic, he passed this passion on to his daughters, attending their sporting events with pride and encouragement. His own regimen included a rigorous diet and exercise routine, and he could often be found playing pickleball three times a week. He even mentored his son-in-law Craig in the art of ping pong, sharing his joy for sport and competition.

Darrell also possessed an adventurous spirit. He lived for six years in Ecuador, hoping his family would one day join him, though life ultimately charted a different course. Beyond this chapter of exploration, he held a deep appreciation for the arts-especially classical music, which he enjoyed in quiet moments of reflection. His love for the outdoors was equally strong; he found solace in fishing, boating on the lake, and being immersed in nature's beauty, doing all of it with the hope and purpose of keeping his family close. His warmth, curiosity, and ability to hold meaningful conversations made him an unforgettable presence in any room.

Darrell's legacy is one of love, kindness, and generosity. He lived intentionally and simply, embodying the qualities of being austere, responsible, and frugal-yet his frugality never compromised his generosity, especially when it came to his time, attention, and support for those he cherished. His life was a balance of steadfast principles and tender-hearted care, making him a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

As we remember Darrell Lee Dullnig, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, devotion, and love. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live with intention, cherish family connections, and embrace the simple joys of life. Though his passing leaves a void, his spirit and the lessons he imparted will remain with us forever.
