Darrell Eugene Fretwell, Sr.

Darrell Eugene Fretwell, Sr., 65, of Seale, AL died at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA on Monday, November 17, 2025 surrounded by family.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM (EST) in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating.

Mr. Fretwell was born October 19, 1960, in Columbus, Ga son of the late Clifton “Polka dot” Sylvester Fretwell and Charlotte Ann Weems Fretwell. He was a roofer by trade; something he was good at and enjoyed doing. Darrell was an avid Alabama Football fan and was always sparing with his daughter-in-law, Chelcie who is an avid Georgia fan. He was a legend to his family and those who knew him best. Darrell was also a very giving man, he never said no when there was a real need.

He loved his family and was the best father, grandfather and father-in-law. Darrell loved to spend time with his family fishing, camping, being around the bon fire cooking “drunk chicken” and Boston butts. The family time shared during these moments will always be cherished in our hearts.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Charlotte Fretwell and his wife, Romona Childs Fretwell.

Survivors include his eight children, three girls, Crystal Fretwell (Stephen Gilbert), Carrie Fretwell (Timothy Nagy) and Shampree Fretwell; five boys, Steven Prophitt, Darrell E. Fretwell, Jr. (Chelcie), Bobby Fretwell (Brittany Hagler), Christpher Fretwell (Courtney Johnson), Jeremy Childs; 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; Margaret Fretwell and other family members and friends.
