Meckele Mares Obituary
Meckele “Mickey” Levi Mares, 82, of Seale, AL passed away on August 24, 2025. Services will be held at a later date.
Mickey was born in Columbus, Ga, to the late Lillian and Attilio Mares. Mickey was a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and was proud of his heritage. He graduated from Central High School class of ‘61 and he was voted “most likely to succeed”. Mickey retired in 2009 from Litho-Krome Company in Columbus, Ga after working for 37 years and was also retired from the National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, the Auburn Tigers, and he loved every one of his dogs. Mickey, affectionately known as “Big Man” by his grandchildren and others, will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Mickey Mares is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mares; parents, Lillian Queen Mares and Attilio G. Mares; and sister, Olga M. Steakman.
Mickey is survived by his son, Mitchell Mares (Traci); daughter, Morganne Motos (Jimbo); grandchildren, Levi Mares, Max Mares, Macie Mares, Tyler Motos, Emma Ruth Motos, and Laura Kate Motos; stepdaughter, Leigh Gallagher.
