Darrell B. Hayes passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in his home on February 17, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
The faculty and administration of Cambridge Springs High School threw a huge party when Darrell B. walked across the stage to get his diploma in 1961. His hunting and fishing excellence, passion for fast cars, and loveable personality earned him the nickname of "The Dazzler". He also had a love for animals and the "King of Rock and Roll" - Elvis Presley. Darrell was our "King" and knew how to do everything. Build a home? Check. Help friends build their homes? Check. Race cars? Check. Become a world class card player? Check. If you live in Erie, are reading this, and have ever spoken to someone on a landline... Darrell helped make this possible. He would always say he was blessed with an incredible amount of digital dexterity and physical propinquity. We weren't sure what that meant, but it had to be good. To us, his greatest accomplishment was being a tremendous friend, husband, father, and grandfather.
Darrell will be greatly missed by his family which includes his wife, MaryAnn, who he spent the last 50 years with; daughter, Elizabeth Hayes (Anthony JR); son, Aaron Hayes (Olivia); daughter, Kathryn Hilbert (Kevin); sisters, Wyola Fehr and Carolyn Parker (George); and grandchildren, Isabella and Bryce Hilbert and Austin and Emme Hayes. Family was his greatest love, and he was so proud of everything his children and grandchildren have accomplished.
In addition to his parents (Rutherford and Violet Hayes), he was preceded in death by his sisters, Eileen Godfrey and Renae Marinelli, In laws, Marie and William Coleman, brother in law Donald Fehr, and his sister in law Rebecca Hennessy.
It is hard to say you knew someone in your life that never said a bad word about anyone, but we can all say that about our Dad. What a great legacy to leave behind. He will be missed by so many but never forgotten.
Friends may call on Friday, February 21, at Sacred Heart Church from 10am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 12pm. Burial will be private. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anna Shelter, The Humane Society of Erie, or a charity of your choice. Just make sure to do it with a smile.

We are very sad to see this. Our deepest sympathies to MaryAnn, children, grandchildren and all who loved him. He was everything his family said. He was great to work with and gave me advice on rentals. He was always willing to share his knowledge. He was also my best friend“s brother. Wish we had seen more of him after retirement. Our loss. May his memory be a blessing.
