Darrell Grey Layne, born on February 22, 1943, in Pike County, Kentucky, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann Ward Layne, with whom he shared a devoted marriage since June 15, 1963. Darrell was a proud father to his two sons, Chad Layne and wife Desiree of Columbus, Ohio, and Keith Layne and wife Jenny of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was also a cherished grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Shianne Barrett, Sierra Barrett, Joshua Layne, Caitlin Layne, Chevelle Layne, Lydia Layne, Colin Layne, Alex Layne, Tucker Layne, Grant Layne, Andrew Keasler, and Brooke Heinrich.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Berlin and Allene Clevenger Layne, and his brother, Don Clevenger. A veteran of the United States Army, Darrell retired with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class, having served his country with honor. He was a man of faith, belonging to the Baptist denomination.

The funeral service for Darrell Grey Layne will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Lewis officiating.

Graveside services for Darrell Grey Layne will be conducted at 2:30 pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The family of Darrell Grey Layne will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home after 10:30 am on Tuesday to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched the lives of many.
