Darrell F. McKinley Jr.

Darrell Floris McKinley, Jr., age 88, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at his home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was born in Charlotte, NC, on March 16, 1937, to the late Darrell F. McKinley, Sr. and Mary Faires McKinley, and was the widower of Mary Lou Gilbert McKinley, his wife of 56 years.
A proud U. S Navy veteran, Darrell served his country honorably as an RMC (SS) before retiring after 22 years of active-duty service. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve where he was Past East Coast Regional President and was chairman of the Essay Committee, presenting flags to Eagle Scouts all over the state. Darrell was a member of City Road Methodist Church. He loved travelling and was a fan of Duke basketball.
Darrell is survived by two sons, Darrell "Mac" F. McKinley III and his wife, Sandy, and Mark A. McKinley and his wife, Lori. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, Bill McKinley; and his sister, Phyllis McKinley Phillips.
The family will celebrate in private.
