It is with great sadness that Darrell E. Zike, Jr., 72, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born Wednesday, November 12, 1952 to the late Darrell E. Zike, Sr. and Ella Mae (Morrison) Zike in Martinsville.
Darrell was a graduate of Martinsville High School and went on to teach at Central Nine Trade School for several years before becoming a self-employed building contractor. He built and renovated many homes in the community. He was an active member and former bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Martinsville. He loved sports. He enjoyed coaching and attending countless games to support his kids and grandchildren. Darrell was a devoted family man, who was a tremendous cook and loved hosting Sunday dinners for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Candace A. (Hardisty) Zike, who he married October 23, 1973; children, Heidi Derringer (Vance), Travis Zike (Courtney), Hillari Zike (Dave), Trevor Zike (Julie); brothers, Mike and Ron Zike; sisters, Peggy Cherry and Lisa Vaught; grandchildren, Sydnie, Bryce, Gavin, Gannon, Ruby, Peyton; great grandchildren, Aubriella, Brayson, Brinleigh.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Darrell, Sr. and Ella; sisters, Nina Vaught and Sandy Vaught.
Visitation is 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Costin Funeral Chapel. Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Martinsville with an hour of visitation prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m.
Darrell will be laid to rest at Liberty Church Cemetery in Monroe County. Though he will be deeply missed, His family will carry his love and memories in their hearts until we are all united once again.
