In Loving Memory of Mr. Darryl "DeeDee" Celius
It´s taken me longer than I expected to truly come to terms with the loss of Darryl "DeeDee" Celius. DeeDee wasn´t just a friend to me-he was my brother. He was my uncle. We didn´t share the same blood, but we shared something even stronger: a lifetime of growing up together. From childhood mischief to grown-up conversations, he was always there. His presence shaped who I am in ways I´m only beginning to understand.
I keep thinking back to one summer afternoon when we were kids, running barefoot through the neighborhood chasing ice cream trucks and dreams. DeeDee stopped mid-run, looked at me with that unforgettable grin, and said, "We´re going to remember this forever." He was right. That moment, like so many others, is etched into my heart.
His passing has left a silence that´s hard to describe. DeeDee had a way of making you feel safe just by being near. His laugh could lift your spirits, and his loyalty was unwavering. He was the kind of person who made life better simply by being part of it. Losing him feels like losing a piece of my own story.
To his son, Darryl Jr., and to his siblings, I want to say how deeply sorry I am. I know this pain is heavy, and I hope you feel surrounded by love. DeeDee´s spirit lives on in you-in your strength, your kindness, and the way you carry his memory forward. He was proud of you. That pride will never fade.
As we grieve, I hold onto hope. There´s a quote that´s brought me comfort:
"When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. And though we may part for now, we will meet again-in a place where love never ends."
Rest easy, DeeDee. You were my brother, my uncle, my family. I´ll carry your memory with me always. Until we meet again.
