Darryl Wayne LaPierre, 80, of St. Marys, died on Monday, November 10, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Darryl was born on August 24, 1945 in Cape Girardeau, MO the son of Charles Frederick and Barbara (Unger) LaPierre.
He attended local schools in Jackson, MO and later attended Southeast Missouri State University graduating with Bachelor of Science degree in geology.
Darryl enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963 and served his country honorably.
Darryl was a mechanic for the Strategic Air Command and worked his way up to Crew Chief for the KC-135 Air Refueling Wing. He also served at Takhli Air Base in Thailand near the end of his military service. He was honorably discharged in 1967 at his last duty station at Blytheville AFB in Arkansas.
Darryl was a man of many hobbies and interests including woodworking, collecting minerals, HAM radio operator, fishing and hunting, riding his motorcycle, and for those who knew him best, his greatest hobby was socializing and dogs, especially Bandit (the last in a long line).
Darryl is survived by his wife, Judy LaPierre and son Travis LaPierre, both of St. Marys, and grandchildren, Clay and Melina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sandy Whitlege and brother, Bruce LaPierre.
The family will recite a rosary for Darryl at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 16 at Piper Funeral, 714 Maple St. in St. Marys followed by a visitation until 6:00 PM. A graveside burial service with military honors will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 17 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503.
Memorial contributions in Darryl’s memory may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.
