Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home on Jun. 27, 2023.
Darryl Bruce Weide of Maple Valley, Washington passed peacefully on June 1, 2023, at his favorite breakfast hangout the "honky tonk." Darryl resided in his parents' home on Lake Lucerne where he was raised as a child. Darryl graduated from Tahoma High School and Washington State University before he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret. Darryl held a bachelor's degree from WSU and two AA degrees, one in criminology.
In 1975 he took a leap of faith and moved to Fairbanks to ride the tail end of the great Alaska Pipeline boom. One year later he married Molly "Becky" Paradis who had two young children in tow, adding to his adventure. Darryl and Becky returned to Washington in 1986 and divorced in 1990. Darryl returned to Alaska in 1993, this time to Anchorage, where he met his lovely wife of 26 years, Karen J. Prince. In 2006, Darryl moved back to Maple Valley with Karen to care for his elderly father.
As a youth, Darryl participated in basketball and played first base in baseball. As an adult, Darryl stayed busy with men's and women's softball, riding snow machines, sport fishing, and traveling with Karen. Darryl was well known in his career and in his community as his personality was the size of Alaska, it was seldom he wasn't holding a cold IPA, and good luck picking up the tab because Darryl beat you to it.
Darryl was an intermodal freight specialist whose career began at Sourdough Freightlines in Fairbanks and ended in retirement from Alaska West Express, a Lynden company. In addition to working at the Alaska Railroad, Darryl enjoyed the rewards of self-employment.
Darryl is survived by his brother Richard Weide (Mary Jo) of
Enumclaw, WA; niece, Marjorie Weide of
