Daryl R. Dixon

1924 - 2026

Daryl Raymond Dixon, 101, of Plainview passed away on January 3, 2026 at Santa Fe Terrace. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 1:30 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Kress, Texas. A private burial will take place prior to the service. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas.

Daryl was born on March 10, 1924 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas to John Lewis Dixon and Ora Dianthia Bender Dixon. He graduated high school from Mound Valley, Kansas. While in high school he was an apprentice blacksmith, which led to employment with the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway Company during the war. While coming to Texas for wheat harvest, he and his friends were always found at roller skating rinks. He met his spouse, Marjorie Elizabeth Gaines at the Plainview Roller Rink. They were married on March 15, 1950 and had two children. They started farming in the Kress area in 1953, and "spent" their retirement in Plainview. After retiring he became an auxiliary volunteer for the Covenant Hospital for fifteen years and was often called the Popcorn Man. In his spare time, Daryl could repair equipment or build custom pieces to fit the needs of farming, mowing, and creating art pieces. He had a passion for rebuilding Studebaker vehicles.

Daryl is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Elizabeth Dixon; his parents, John Lewis Dixon and Ora Dianthia Bender Dixon; and his brother, Willis Dixon.

Daryl is survived by his daughter, Darlena Burnett and fiancé Rodney Proffitt of Hico, Texas; his son, Donald Dixon and wife Marcia of Plainview; five grandchildren, Jennifer Conner and husband Jon of LaPorte, Texas, Amanda Burnett of Houston, Texas, Cory Burnett of Farmington, New Mexico, Alanna Fortune and husband Cash of Abernathy, Texas, and Kallie Nichols and husband Jacob of Wolfforth, Texas; and five great grandchildren.
