David Foster Akins, was born in L.A., CA, Feb 22, 1944, as the only child to Thelma "Louise" Robinson Meyden. After a long illness, David passed away on December 7, 2025.

Shortly after his birth, David and his mother relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah to be near family, specifically his grandparents with whom he spent much of his younger years. He was very proud of his ancestry, being a descendant of Dutch grandparents who emigrated to the United States from Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1909. David learned many things from them, to be fair, honest, out-spoken, and stubborn, but most of all love.

David was a graduate of West High School in Salt Lake City. He had many interests throughout his life, some of which were fishing, hunting for deer, ducks and pheasants, boating, motor cycles, classic cars, music and playing his guitar.

David married Judy Rhodes in 1965. Together they had 2 children. His proudest accomplishments were these two sons, who shared his name, David Duane and Steven Foster. David and Judy divorced in 1976. He married again, but later divorced, having no children.

Beginning his working career as an optical technician with Standard Optical, David specialized in the creation of contact lenses and eventually managing the contact lens lab. He later switched career paths, and with his attention to detail, became a valuable and dedicated employee as a machinist with Parker-Hannifin Control Systems where he continued his employment until retirement.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerrit and Margaretha Vreeken Robinson Vander Meyden, his mother, Thelma Louise Robinson Meyden, uncle George Vander Meyden and aunt Margaret Vander Meyden Dever.

David is survived by his (2) sons, David "Duane" Akins, West Valley City, Utah, and Steven "Steve" Foster (Shalin) Akins, Mulino, Oregon; (3) grandchildren, Haley (Jeremiah) Jones, Beaverton, Oregon, Kylie (Codie) Porter, Portland, Oregon, and Chaz Foster Akins, Beaverton, Oregon, (2) great-grandchildren, Booker Jones and Monroe Jones, Beaverton, Oregon.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers whose assistance helped David over the past year, with a special thank you to the hospice nurses and doctors, and his good friends and neighbors for their help and support. A graveside service will be held at the Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, Utah at 11:00 am, Monday, December 15, 2025.
