David H. Anstine, a cherished soul who inspired us all with his remarkable kindness and unwavering faith, peacefully passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 73 in Fernandina Beach, FL. Born on August 21, 1951, in York, PA, David's life was a testament to service, love and dedication.
From an early age, Dave showed a tenacious spirit, graduating from William Penn High School in 1969, and proudly returning to celebrate his 50th class reunion. He became an accomplished swimmer, starting at the York YMCA under the tutelage of John Debarbadillo and Bill Schmidt. He was a six-time All-American in high school and college, a testament to his determination and discipline. Dave pursued his thirst for knowledge, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry from Elizabethtown College in 1974.
Dave's career took him on an adventurous path through the calcium carbonate industry, beginning with at Certainteed. In 1978, his journey brought him to Genstar, which evolved into English China Clay, paralleling his evolution as a brilliant innovator. His career was marked by multiple patents, including his final achievement in a moisture-tolerant rock dust. Eventually, he retired with pride in 2017, leaving behind an impressive legacy of expertise and ingenuity.
In retirement, Dave's commitment to his faith and community deepened. He was a guiding light at Yulee United Methodist Church's food pantry, which he led through the challenging days of the pandemic until mid-2023. Welcoming a new chapter of his spiritual journey, Dave was baptized at Trinity United Methodist Church, embracing the teachings of Jesus Christ with renewed vigor.
A nurturing teacher and mentor, Dave had a natural gift for inspiring children, especially as a swim coach at Red Lion High School, Hanover YMCA, and Wildcat Swim Club. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His community involvement stretched beyond the pantry, as he contributed to Gracie's Kitchen, collecting food and serving meals with heartfelt grace.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Rutherford and Ruth Elizabeth (Wambaugh) Anstine. His memory will continue to thrive in the hearts of his sister, Carol Sunday, his devoted partner, Sandee Robinson, his daughter, Lauren Carey, son-in-law, Ryan Carey and son, Matthew Anstine.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 715 Ash St., Fernandina Beach, FL, on December 14, 2024, at 11 am. Friends and family in York, PA will have an opportunity to honor him at a service to be announced.
I'm lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Trinity UMC-Benevolent Fund or York YMCA Swimming-Bill Schmidt or John Debarbadillo Invitationals in Dave's name.
Dave, you've inspired our souls with a precious legacy. You've taught us values that will never retire-friendship and honesty. Your spirit remains a beacon of light in our lives, shining brightly with every kind act and warm memory you leave behind.
