David Gene Asher, a cherished member of the Hyden community, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 24, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on January 25, 1948, in Hyden, Kentucky, David was a devoted family man and a hardworking individual whose life was characterized by his dedication to both his profession and his loved ones.
David had a commendable career as a coal miner at Shamrock Coal, where he faithfully served for 31 years. His commitment to his work exemplified his strong work ethic and determination, qualities that he carried into every aspect of his life.
Outside of his professional endeavors, David was an avid coon hunter who cherished his coon dogs & found great joy in gardening. David had a great love for his farm animals especially his mules and fowl, this was matched only by his passion for spending quality time with his family. David's interests reflected his deep appreciation for nature and the simple pleasures of life.
He is survived by his former wife, "Sweetie" Verda Caldwell; sons Woody Asher and his wife Linda Sue, James Asher and his wife Laura, Shannon Asher and his wife Chassidy, and Tyler Caldwell and his wife Shawna. His daughters, Renee Caldwell Asher, and Tracy Weaver & husband, Shannon. Additionally, David leaves behind his brother Larry Asher and his wife Loretta, and his sister Judy Clark. He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, including Chelsey Davidson and her husband Ryan, Haley and Dylan, Amanda Irene Collett and her husband Josh, Brendan, Tyler Strong, Cody, Shayla and Logan, Travis and Isabella, Alton, Bentley, Sarah Jade, Shannon Dakota Weaver, Dustin Garrett Weaver, Richard Blake Weaver, and Olivia Caldwell. His legacy continues with 11 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who were blessed to know him.
David was predeceased by his parents, Harold Bailey and Bessie Asher, as well as his former wife Loretta Bailey. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Chester and Lucretia Bailey & Chester & Nancy Asher, his brother James Darrell, his sister Denna Brock, and half-brothers Bob Bailey and Sam Bailey, along with half-sister Irma Jean.
David Gene Asher will be remembered not only for the legacy he leaves behind but also for the love and warmth he shared with everyone around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact on the lives he touched will forever resound in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral: Monday, April 28, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, Kentucky
Ministers: Rev. Roscoe Asher, Rev. Jerry Maggard & Tyler Caldwell
Interment: Asher-Jones Cemetery, Hyden, Kentucky
Visitation: Sunday, April; 27, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel
