Opal Chitwood Asher, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Well's Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She was 96 years old. Born on December 15, 1929, in Winfield, Tennessee, She later in life moved to Cincinnati, Ohio lived with her sister, Elizabeth meeting friends and visited Hyden, Kentucky where she met her loving husband Curt whom she married later in life on August 30, 1946. Opal's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and nurturing spirit.
For numerous years, Opal served her community with grace and commitment in her role at the cafeteria of Leslie County High School. Her contributions went beyond the kitchen, as she created a warm and welcoming environment for the students and staff alike, earning the affection and respect of those she served.
Opal cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her loving children: Ronnie Asher and his wife, Betty; Anna Deaton and her husband, Bob; Curtis Asher; and Deborah Asher Andrasz and her husband, Steve. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, who have all been touched by her boundless love: Donavan Asher, Denise Kirkland, Kevin Asher and his wife, Holly, Curt Stanley Asher, Keith Deaton and his wife, Rachel, Matthew Beaty, Wesley Asher, and Austin Asher. Opal's family tree flourishes with great-grandchildren, including Nicholas Beaty, Donovan Beaty, Jayden Beaty, Bryson Beaty, Sophia Asher, Brady Asher, Brylee Asher, Brixton Asher, Jenna Kirkland, Andrew Kirkland and his wife, Kaila, and Trevor Deaton. She was also a proud great-great-grandmother to Lance Kirkland and Jensen Kirkland.
She was predeceased by her parents, Granville Cecil Chitwood and Susie Jane Strunk Chitwood, beloved husband, Curt Asher, her cherished great-granddaughter, Gabriella Asher. Opal joins her siblings in eternal peace, including her brothers: Herman Chitwood, Vernon Chitwood, Edwin Chitwood, and Donald Chitwood; and her sisters: Eva Birchfield, Edith Shumpert, and Elizabeth Morris. She also held a special place in her heart for her daughter-in-law, Hilda Asher, whom she regarded as a daughter.
Opal Chitwood Asher was a loving homemaker, raising four children. Opal was a resilient woman who loved working in her yard and garden.
Funeral: Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY.

Interment: Hurricane Cemetery, Hyden, KY.
Pallbearers: Donavan Asher, Kevin Asher, Wesley Asher, Austin Asher, Keith Deaton and Matthew Beaty
Visitation: Sun. Feb. 8th at 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel
