David Columbus Auton, age 78, left this life on Sunday, November 17, 2024, for a closer walk with Jesus. David was born on March 18, 1946, as the first born of John Auton and Magdalene Crawford Auton in Durham County. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Magdalene; brother, John Jr.; sister, Jackie Auton Ayscue. David has always loved working in the garden, hunting, fishing, racing go carts, being a mechanic and cooking. There was nothing he could not fix. HE always lifted a helping hand to others. He attended Clayton High School and worked until he retired at Billings & Garrett in Raleigh, NC in 2015. He loved and enjoyed being a mechanic for over 50 years. When it came to gardening, there was not a vegetable that he could not grow. When David was not working, he loved making memories with his family on his pontoon boat on the lake. He loved sharing recipes and cooking with his beloved wife, Jackie. David loved walking and spending time with his beloved companions, Bishop, Eunice and Pepsi. On 11/20/2024, Pepsi crossed the rainbow bridge to join David on his heavenly walks.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 in the West Clayton Church of God. The family will receive friends at other times at the Auton Home.
