SHELDON - David C. Babbie, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born February 20, 1944 in Ludlow, MA to the late Donald & Janet (DuBois) Babbie.
David's journey led him to Vermont as a young man, where he found his soulmate, Ruth Babbie. They celebrated their love and commitment on June 14, 1969, and together they created a beautiful life. As a talented barber, David was dedicated to his craft and brought smiles to countless faces. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to seek out opportunities wherever he could, including his adventures traveling to fairs to "make a buck."
David was a proud member of the Masons, Shriner's, and the American Legion, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to his community in meaningful ways. His passion for NASCAR was unmatched, and he took pride in co-founding the Cairo mini racers parade unit, sharing his enthusiasm for racing with fellow fans.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Poissant) Babbie of Sheldon; daughter, Sara Schryver and her husband Bryan; grandchildren, Jennifer Schryver, Cameron Schryver, Zoe Schryver, and Forrest Cummings; great grandchildren, Anthony Ovitt, and Caspian Ovitt; sisters-in-law, Sandra Babbie, and Beverly Poissant; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his daughter, Beth Umland and her husband Douglas; his brother, Calvin Babbie; and brothers-in-law, Maurice Poissant, and Marc Poissant.
Friends and family are invited to David's life celebration on Monday, June 30, 2025 to include visitation from 5-6:00 PM followed with a memorial service at 6:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT.
