David Bailey, a cherished soul whose roots were firmly planted in the heart of Leslie County, KY, departed this world on August 29, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on December 23, 1949, he forged a path through life that was defined by resilience, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
For 23 diligent years, David was a proud coal miner with Shamrock Coal Company, dedicating his strength and spirit to the industry's demanding work. His labor was not merely a job, but a testament to his character—one that valued hard work and the camaraderie of community. In all his pursuits, from gathering with family to hunting in the crisp autumn air, David found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid deer hunter, embracing the serenity of nature, and relished the thrill of many ATV rides that echoed laughter through the valleys of Kentucky.
David's evenings often revolved around watching old western movies , reliving tales of the Old West as he immersed himself in history. Deep down, he was not only a lover of stories but also a loyal companion to his beloved pets, especially his cherished dog, Ole Shep, whose joyful presence brightened his days.
As a lifelong resident of Leslie County, David found solace in his strong ties to the community, holding steadfast affiliations with the Rocky Point Holiness Church, where his spirit resonated in both faith and fellowship. This sense of belonging was woven through the vibrant tapestry of his life, leading him to create treasured memories with his loving family, particularly with his children, who were the stars in his sky.
David leaves behind a devoted wife, Lorrine Asher Bailey, who stood beside him through life's joys and trials. He is also survived by three step-sons: Matthew Shepherd and Barbara of Georgetown, KY; Ricky Dean Shepherd and Stephanie of Wooton, KY; and Donald Shepherd and Tracy of Warbranch, KY. A cherished brother, Dale Bailey and Lisa of Hyden, KY, cherish their memories of him, along with two nephews, Cody Bailey and Kendra, Shannon Bailey and Felicia, and special niece Kimberly Faye Asher and Jerry. Special friends Dean Brown and Ronald Napier were pillars of support and companionship throughout his journey.
David's legacy is deeply intertwined with those who have departed—his loving parents, George Bailey and Opal Collett Bailey, his first wife Helen, his son Doug Bailey, an infant brother Jack, and sister Ruth Bailey Holland. They form an eternal circle of love that now welcomes him home.
In the quiet moments that follow his passing, let us remember David Bailey—not just as a coal miner who toiled with grit and determination, but as a man whose laughter echoed through families, whose kindness touched many hearts, and whose life was a beautiful testament to love and resilience.
