RIP Mr. Barberic! Thank you for senior year English class at OFHS. Mrs. Chubb's junior year course was a tough act to follow, especially in a classroom with no window, but you managed. I still play my Nancy Griffith CD.

So sorry to hear his news.....Although our paths haven't crossed much recently, "Bird" was one of the great guys in our neighborhood and schools. He brought smiles to any group he came upon. I also was impressed with his dedication to coaching defensive football. Bird had a positive influence on so many people! Condolences to the Barberic family.

Dear Aunt Carol, Kyle, Kerri and Ali,
Our hearts are heavy. We will miss Uncle Dave so much. I will miss trading sarcasm and wit with him. His kindness was extraordinary, and we're fortunate to have been on the receiving end of it.
May your hearts be held steady,

To Carol and the Barberic Family, Our deepest condolences on Dave's untimely passing. I was a colleague of Carol's in the Fairview Park Schools, Dave and Carol were exceptional educators. Like Carol, Dave genuinely cared about his students with respect and a friendly sense of humor. He was the same with his players, and those he supervised in their student teaching through BW. He will be missed by many. Carol, you and your family are blessed with so many memories shared with Dave. It was Cicero who said, "The lives of the dead are placed in the memories of the living." For you and all those he touched, those memories will keep his life and legacy active in our hearts and minds. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dave was my neighbor and friend. I will miss you running out on your front porch or back deck to tell me a joke, always a beep and wave when you saw me walking Riley, helping me snow-blow but most of all I will just miss the wonderful man I've had the honor of knowing for 15 years

Rest on peace, Davey. We all love you. My deepest condolences to your family, friends, former colleagues and students. I knew Dave from the neighborhood in Parma where we grew up. And, yes, his brothers called him Davey, and that’s how I remember him too. Reading through all of the comments from others, I’m not at all surprised that he is so fondly remembered as someone who made a difference in people’s live.

What a terrible loss for family, friends, and community! Dave was at his best when he was helping others. Whether he was supporting his family with their dreams, coaching young players in various sports or training young teachers at BWU, he always left the people he worked with better for his being there.
Dave was not afraid of challenges. I think that is what endeared him to me during his first year at OFHS. Throughout his life he tackled several new adventures, all very successfully. He was a model for all of us to follow.
There will always be a special place in my heart for Dave and fond memories of our times together.

Dave was an awesome neighbor! He made our block one of the best in Bay! From snow-blowing our walks in the winter, to tossing back a few in the summer, everyone looked forward to spending time with him, and his commentaries on life, always peppered with humor. The intersection of Bruce Rd. and Fordham Pkwy glows a little dimmer now...............

A great teacher, coach, and human being. David had a wonderful way with kids, and very quick wit. Sometimes students had a delayed reaction to his humor as they had to figure out what he was saying. Then once they figured it out,,,a huge belly laugh by the class. A master cynic. A grinder,,,seldom missed school for any reason. A friend to all. Lover of March Madness and “professional” wrestling. A humorist for sure. An intellectual. A lover of his family and life itself. We love you David, you will be missed by all who knew you !!! Thoughts and prayers to Carol, children, and all of your extended family.

Mr. Barberic had a big impact on my life as a teacher and coach in the 80’s. He made a comment that made a huge difference in my life at that time. I hope and pray to be able to do the same thing for others at the right moment in their lives. God bless Mr Barberic and family.

Mr. Barberic was one of the best teachers I have ever had! In fact, I was just telling my husband a story about him the other day; how he pushed me to be a better writer and how thankful I am to have been a student of his. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Please try to find some comfort knowing how many young lives he enriched in his years as a teacher and a coach.

Mr. Barberic was a great teacher and I learned a lot of life lessons from him during class that I didn’t fully understand until later in life. He truly helped shape me and us into formidable characters. I think of him fondly and send my kind regards to all those multitudes whose life he touched.

My Deepest Sympathies to: Carol, Kyle, Alison and the entire Barberic family. Dave an I both graduated from Parma Senior, I in 1968 and David later, in a school of over 3,000 students our paths never knowingly crossed, but God has a way of "lining up" those that our paths are supposed to cross and years later our path would indeed cross, many times. The place we chose to raise our family was absolutely influenced by the quality of the school system our children would attend and Olmsted Falls high standards of education excellence, enhanced by the quality of their educational staff made the "path crossing" happen for the first time when our oldest attended OFHS in the fall of 1985. Our four children either had "Mr" Barberic as their Senior English teacher or as an advisor or as a football coach. There were several occasions over the next nine years when we would have communication with Dave, and we always appreciated his tremendous work ethic and dedication to his job-preparing young adults for their future endeavors. Some years passed, he and his family frequented my business and our paths continued to cross. A few years later I was blessed to have his son, Kyle as a valued employee at my business. Years after Kyle's graduation, and employment into his life's work, we still "crossed paths", sharing stories about our pending retirements, and grand-parenting, he often asked about his former students, my kids and it was always a pleasant occasion when we chatted. As everyone, I was saddened to learn of his passing, like all of you, I do not, and never will understand moments like this, but my faith dictates that we accept this and it also reminds us that our life on Earth is but a stepping stone in our being, we must be thankful for the time granted us and, while on Earth, we must do whatever it takes to leave a positive influence on everyone and everything whose paths we cross, and Dave Barberic did that and those of us lucky enough to know him benefited immensely. God Bless You.

Oh my goodness.
Mr. Barberic was the teacher who showed us that we were all writers— all interpreters of poetry— all intellectual.
I have been a teacher for almost 30 years now— We read the poem “The Sun Goes Down on Summer” at the beginning of the year. I tell the students that Mr. Barberic, my senior English teacher, read this poem to US the first day of school.

I was shocked when I heard about the death of David. He was a master teacher who was loved by his students. Dave made his classes come alive with his use of humor during his lessons. He was highly respected among his peers and was an excellent football coach. Teachers like Dave helped Olmsted Fall HS to establish a reputation as an outstanding academic high school. The entire Olmsted community will miss this fine man .

I first heard about Dave from my son, Dan Largent, who admired him so very much. As a BW University Supervisor with Dave, I, along with everyone else, found him to be kind, helpful, funny, supportive and dedicated teacher. All the things my son saw in him as a colleague and coach. Dave will be greatly missed by many and I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry to hear this, and lots of love to family and friends. It's been a long time, but Mr. Barberic was my high school teacher at OF, and I count him as one of my all time favorites. He cared about his students, took a real interest in our ideas and lives, and was funny and kind. He took me and other to hear a women news reporter speak in downtown Cleveland– I'll never forget that, it had a big impact on me and my career. I'm lucky to have known him.

I was one of many Olmsted Falls students who so appreciated the opportunity to learn from Mr. Barberic. I often thought he would have enjoyed himself more in a college lecture hall than in a high school classroom because I don't know that we were ready for his intelligence, his wit, and his approach. But I do know that we benefitted from it every day. He challenged us unlike other teachers and he prepared us for our future.
My prayers and condolences go out to his family.

Dave was a fellow coach who was in part the reason that the Olmsted Falls Bulldog football team experienced much success. More importantly Dave shared his love of learning by teaching countless students. I personally mourn the loss of my brother coach and my empty martini glass says it all.
