David Benoit Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stockbridge Funeral Home LLC - Exeter on Feb. 12, 2026.
David W. Benoit passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 28, 2026. A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, David lived a life filled with curiosity, generosity, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Born and raised in Upton, Massachusetts, David discovered his lifelong passion for fly fishing at a young age under the guidance of his father. He spent countless days fishing for brook trout in local streams and on family trips to Rangeley, Maine.

Following his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, David settled in Southern New Hampshire in 1979, where he continued to explore the waters of New England, the New York Catskills, and the Canadian Maritimes. His dedication to the art of fly fishing led him to earn his Master Certified Casting Instructor accreditation from the Federation of Fly Fishers (now Fly Fishers International). In 2004, he completed Sweetwater Travel's Montana Guide School, further deepening his skills and knowledge.

David was passionate about sharing his love of fly fishing with others. He volunteered for many years as an instructor with New Hampshire's "Let's Go Fishing" and "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" programs and worked with Project Healing Waters, helping to bring comfort and connection to fellow veterans through the therapeutic art of fly fishing.

In retirement, David made his summer home in West Yellowstone, Montana, where he worked part-time at Bob Jacklin's Fly Shop and spent his days exploring the rivers, lakes, and ponds of Yellowstone National Park and beyond.

He is survived by his three children, two grandchildren, and many friends who will remember him fondly for his warmth, humor, and unwavering love of nature.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Project Healing Waters, whose mission David proudly supported. Contributions can be made online at:
