David Berwick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Mar. 6, 2026.
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of David Berwick, a cherished father, brother, and friend, who left this world on March 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with a long illness. Born on September 6, 1951, in Hartford, Connecticut, David lived a life full of passion, love, and an unwavering dedication to those around him.

David was the beloved son of John and Madeline Berwick, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brother, Gary Berwick. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth cherished by his daughter Jordan Berwick, his brothers James and John Berwick, and his sister Denise Velsor. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a pillar of support and love for them all.

A man of intellect and curiosity, David graduated from Governor Livingston High School in 1969 and pursued higher education in North Carolina, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. His pursuit of knowledge and commitment to learning were evident throughout his life, as he continuously sought to expand his understanding of the world.

Professionally, David dedicated many years to the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Florida. As the supervisor of the Residential Department for visually impaired students, David made a lasting impact on countless young lives. His compassion and dedication to the students were a testament to his generous spirit and his commitment to making the world a better place.

Outside of his professional life, David was a talented musician, proficient in playing the guitar. He was a vital part of two innovative bands, Gunga Din and Crabgrass, where he expressed his love for English folk rock music. His creative spirit and passion for music brought joy to many and left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of hearing him play.

David was a lover of European and American history, a passion that was intertwined with his pride in his Scottish ancestry. He could often be seen wearing a jacket emblazoned with the words "Scotland Forever," a testament to his heritage and the pride he took in it. His conversations were often enriched with humor, and he had an unparalleled ability to engage others in extended discussions, leaving them feeling heard and valued.

A service to honor and celebrate David's life will be held on March 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine, Florida. Friends and family will gather to remember a man whose life was filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy of kindness.

David Berwick was a man who touched the hearts of many, and while his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on through the lives he enriched. As we say goodbye, we remember him not with sadness, but with gratitude for the time we shared and the memories we hold dear.

Rest in peace, dear David. Your legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire us all.
