HALIFAX - David William Bitting, 70, of Halifax, PA passed on March 2, 2025, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
David William Bitting was born to Doris and Richard Bitting of Schuylkill Street in Harrisburg, PA. He and his older brother (and first best friend), Richard, grew up loving the outdoors. During their early years, they attended Camp Curtin Elementary before the family moved to Halifax, PA.
David was an inquisitive soul who loved solving puzzles, whether in life or on paper. While in school, he played the trumpet in the band, enjoyed football, and spent time golfing. His adventurous spirit and curiosity followed him throughout his life.
David was a romantic at heart and found his perfect match in Trudy (Boyer). Together, they lived life out loud in Halifax, PA, where they raised their two daughters, Lauren (Michael) and Courtney (Ryan).
A natural performer, David discovered a passion for the theater through the Twin Valley Players, taking part in nearly every summer musical and roadshow. He also had a knack for working with his hands, whether fixing something mechanical or mending hearts. He had a way of making the world a little stronger, a little steadier, always putting things-and people-back together.
David loved bringing people together. At the Bitting family campground, which he humorously named "The Camp of Lost Soles" after the many shoes that washed up from the creek, he hosted countless gatherings-cast parties, First Day of Trout celebrations, and any other excuse to share stories around a fire.
Family meant everything to David. He welcomed his daughters' husbands as his own. With Michael, he shared a love for hunting, passing down his knowledge with patience and joy. With Ryan, he explored fine ales and live music. His passion for hunting, foraging, and great music were gifts he shared freely with those around him.
Above all, David adored his granddaughters, Trinity and Abbie, who brought him endless joy. Everyone who met David walked away with a story-and most likely, a new friend. No matter where we traveled, we always ran into someone who knew him. He had a way of leaving an imprint on every life he touched.
Please share your stories of David to help carry us through a world without him. For us, he was our center.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd., Millersburg, from 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM. Masonic Services, by Perseverance Lodge No. 21, F&AM, Harrisburg will be held at 8:00 PM Thursday evening.
A celebration of life will be held at Broad Mountain Winery on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 4:00-9:00 PM.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Because he was considered a "galloneer" in donating blood, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to BLOOD+ORGAN DONOR PROGRAM, 582 FREEMASON DR., ELIZABETHTOWN, PA 17022 or plant a tree in his memory.
Arrangements are being cared for by the staff of Minnich Funeral. We are honored to serve this family at our Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd., Millersburg location. To sign the guestbook go to www.minnichfuneral.com.
