David Bittle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
David Merle Bittle, of Eugene, passed away on January 15, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 78.

He was born on March 13, 1947, in Eugene, Missouri, to Ralph and Lizzie Bittle. He was one of a set of twins; his twin brother, Alfred Earl Bittle, preceded him in death at birth.

From the moment you met him, it was clear that he never knew a stranger. Dave was a jack of all trades. He loved to socialize at the Station with anyone who would come through. Once summertime came around, he would spend his days at the Produce Auction and could always be counted on to have tomatoes for anyone who needed them. Dave was truly one of a kind.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Lizzie Bittle; his twin brother, Alfred Earl Bittle; sisters: Queen Gaither, Gladys Calfee, Mary Kathleen Petet, Barbara Sloan, and Mabel Farmer; brother William Bittle; sisters-in-law Patricia Bittle and Josephine Bittle; and brothers-in-law Don Suttie, Bill Petet, Bill Sloan, Roy Calfee, George Gaither, Dan Beam, and LeeRoy Farmer.

He is survived by sisters Francis Beam of Council Bluffs and Martha Suttie of Olean; brother Curt Bittle of Eugene; his companion, Kay Baxter, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Family Life Center at Eugene Christian Church in Eugene, MO. Private Family Interment at Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, MO at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name are suggested In Care of the Family.
