David G. Blodgett, 80, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, with the love and support of his family by his side.
He was born in the Town of
Hope, NY on November 20, 1945, son of the late Edgar and Josephine Henderson Blodgett. He was a graduate of the Mayfield High School Class of 1963 where he played on the basketball team and ran cross country. He also attended SUNY Maritime College.
David was employed as a bricklayer and mason for many years. During the course of his life he also worked for The Greater Amsterdam School District, the Pepsi Cola Co. and Ryan Biggs Engineering Firm. He would ultimately come to work as a Project Coordinator for the New York State Dormitory Authority in Albany until his retirement. One of his favorite projects was overseeing the construction of the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in
Troy, NY.
David was a highly skilled and meticulous mason. He took pride in every project he took on. His excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail can be seen in the numerous projects he completed in Amsterdam as well as throughout New York State. He was highly regarded by the community as well as by his peers. He was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church, and most recently Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam. He served on the Parish Council of St. Michael's Church for many years. David was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #209, serving a period as the Faithful Navigator. He was an active father to his two children, coaching numerous CYO Basketball seasons in Amsterdam.
In addition to his work and church service, David dedicated his time to his family and his many hobbies. His passion was making his home an oasis. He loved completing home projects and was always working on creating something new, from installing a pool in his backyard to building a man cave attached to the garage. David also faithfully tended to his landscaping, cultivating a vibrant array of plants and flowers around his home. He placed bird feeders around the property and tracked the winged visitors. David was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, providing his detailed opinions on stats, management decisions and player performance whenever asked. He enjoyed traveling with his family and went in search of the best local donut anywhere he visited.
He married Alexandria (Sandy) Kosiba Blodgett on October 1, 1966, a marriage that would endure for 59 years. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his two dear children, Karen M.
