David C. Bond, a cherished member of the agricultural community and a dedicated public servant, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 84 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Born on September 20, 1941, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Dave lived a life full of remarkable achievements and profound contributions that will be remembered fondly by family, friends, and the community he served.
Dave grew up on his family's farm, where he developed a lifelong passion for agriculture and community service. He was a devoted member of 4-H from 1950 to 1960 and an active participant in Future Farmers of America (FFA) from 1956 to 1958, during which he proudly won the FFA sponsored New Jersey Tractor Driving Contest in 1958. This early engagement set the foundation for his extensive career in agriculture.
As a 69-year member and past elder of the United First Presbyterian Church of Amwell, Dave was deeply committed to his faith and the community. His steadfast dedication was evident not only in his church work but also in his participation in local tractor pulls across Hunterdon, Warren, and Burlington Counties from 1956 to 2023, where he showcased his skill and love for farming.
Dave was a 4th generation farmer, operating the Bond Family Farm since 1965, a historic establishment founded in 1894. He was immensely proud of passing the torch to his son, Scott, who now manages the 500+ acres of wheat, soybeans, and corn.
In addition to his farming endeavors, Dave co-owned D&R Equipment, Inc., in Ringoes, NJ, which he ran from its inception in 1968 until its closure in 2009. Afterward, he continued to serve the agricultural industry as a salesman for Dave's Equipment Sales, where he specialized in newer model tractors and used farm and light construction equipment. Moreover, he was a certified farm equipment appraiser since 1999, further demonstrating his commitment to the agriculture sector.
Dave also became known for his leadership roles and contributions to various agricultural and community organizations. His involvement with the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture spanned over 60 years. He was a longtime member of the New Jersey Farm Bureau, where he served as a past director, and he achieved recognition in 2008 when he was inducted into the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Princeton Agricultural Association since 2016.
His service to the community extended to local government, where he was elected as a Delaware Township Committeeman, serving from 2004 to 2006 and re-elected for a term running from 2024 to 2026. His tenure on the Delaware Township Planning Board from 1990 to 2021 and involvement in various committees, including the Agriculture Advisory Board and the Hunterdon County Agricultural Development Board, showcased his commitment to sustainable development and community improvement.
Dave earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including the President’s Award from the Amwell Valley Fire Company in 2012 and the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from both the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture in 1998 and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture in 2022. His tireless support for the agricultural community led to him being recognized with the Roger Everitt Award at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Ag Fair in 2023.
Dave will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his kind heart, unwavering integrity, and the deep love he had for his community and family. He leaves behind a legacy that will inspire future generations to follow in his footsteps.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley (Van Lieu) Bond, his daughter, Linda Bond of Ringoes, his son, Dave Bond of Ringoes, his grandson, Kyle Bond, his granddaughters, Myranda Bond and Peyton Bond, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a multitude of friends and admirers whose lives he touched throughout his illustrious journey.
On Friday, October 10, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, a viewing will take place at the family farm located at 325 County Road 579, Ringoes, NJ 08551. Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Mark Spilldoren will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Larison's Corner Presbyterian Church, 1000 Old York Rd, Ringoes, NJ 08551.
