David Ray Butler, 69, passed away on March 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 6, 1955, in Wadesboro, NC, David lived a life filled with love, laughter, and music.
A graduate of Western Guilford High School and Guilford College, David had a deep passion for music and radio. He was well-known as the host of Sunday Morning Rehab on Guilford College's radio station, 90.9 WQFS, where he shared his love of music with listeners for many years. Through his show, he gave a platform to up-and-coming musicians, helping them find new fans and connecting people through the power of song. He took pride in discovering new talent and played a role in shaping the musical journeys of many.
When he wasn't behind the microphone, David found joy in working on his property in Oak Ridge, NC, and spending time at music festivals and concerts with friends.
David was a devoted husband to Joanne Butler, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons, Nathan Butler, Daniel Butler, and Keith Butler (wife Kristin); his parents, Alvin and Elizabeth (Libby) Butler; his niece, Alison Payne, and her husband, Patrick; and his beloved grandchildren, Haley, Kaya, and Clayton Butler. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Butler.
David's warm spirit, sense of humor, and love for music and family touched the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
