David Paul Callan passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members on February 1st, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of music, compassion, love, and kindness to all who knew him. David was married to his loving wife, Amy Duffy Callan, for 19 years and had a marriage filled with love and joy. Together, they brought two wonderful children into the world – Cassidy (16) and Brooke (14) who share David's love for music as well as his silly sense of humor. The girls will always cherish their inside jokes with their dad. David also leaves behind his twin brother Tony (Vikki) with whom he loved to play music, and his devoted father Dave who was always by his side. He was preceded in passing by his adoring mother, Alixann Callan.
David grew up in Harford County, MD where he attended John Carroll High School, performing in many plays and musicals and was loved by the audience. He then attended the University of Maryland before earning his degree in Architectural Engineering from Drexel University. From there, David moved to Chicago to obtain his master's in Construction Engineering and Management from IIT. It was in Chicago that David and Amy met and began their life together. Despite living in the midwest, David always remained an avid Baltimore Ravens fan.
David worked for several worldwide and regional engineering firms before founding his own, Callan Consulting Engineers. He was incredibly proud of his company, and its strong legacy will be continued by his associates. He managed to touch the lives of so many both professionally and personally and was always a trusted mentor and advisor.
Music was one of David's greatest passions. He always said music was healing. For the last two decades he enjoyed playing guitar with several folk groups, including the Lake County Folk Club. He was very proud of recording his album, Nobody Needs a Troubadour, over the last year with all original music. Nobody could captivate an audience like David. He had an innate ability to connect with listeners and grab the audience's attention. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for later this spring.
