David J. Carlson, 78, Fishers, IN, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 19, 1946 in Detroit, MI to the late David A. and Phyllis (Brooks) Carlson. David attended Ferndale High School, Wayne State University, and received his Masters in Education from the University of Michigan. David was a proud educator in the Ferndale Public School District for over 35 years. He also served for over 26 years as an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church and served as a chaplain at the Detroit Children’s Hospital and William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his sister, Janice (Carlson) Young.
David married Kay on December 29, 1967. He is survived by his wife Kay, their children, Ellen (Shawn) Collinsworth and Paul (Megan) Carlson, and his sister, Lois (Carlson) Leach. He will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Logan, Carson, Andrew, Bryce, Parker, Sawyer and Maelin-Kate.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1pm - 2pm on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Independence Village of Fishers East (12950 Talblick St. Fishers, IN). A Memorial Service will begin at 2pm directly following the gathering. The family will share more information regarding a Memorial Celebration of Life to be held in the Detroit Area in June.
