David Nelson Carr, age 36 of Gulfport, joined our Father in Heaven peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, December 28, 2022.

David was born in Gulfport, Harrison County, Mississippi on September 20, 1986. He was a graduate of Harrison Central High School in 2005 with high honors and was a member of the National Honor Society.  David attended The University of South Alabama for a year and half pursuing a degree in Biology and then transferred to University of Mississippi where he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude in Philosophy and Political Science.   David continued his education in Oxford attending the University of Mississippi School of Law graduating in May 2012 Juris Doctor, cum laude.

David began working for the Mississippi Public Service Commission in September 2012. David’s role at the commission was Special Counsel to the Commission for Federal Energy Affairs.  He represented the rate payers of Mississippi and was very highly regarded by his peers all over the country.

David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marlin & Ruby Carr, and Col. Elvin Orv Wyatt.  He was also preceded in death by his uncle, James Marlin “Sonny” Carr.

David will be sadly missed by his parents: Nelson Wayne Carr with his wife Vicky Carr.  David will also be missed by his grandparents: Melba Welch Wyatt, Paul Nelson Burpo and Carol Burpo, as well as his loving sisters, Katherine Elizabeth Carr (Jacob Saucier) and Rebecca Allison Carr; and his niece Rosemary Carr Saucier, and nephew Jesse Oliver Carr Saucer.  He will also be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

David had many passions and shared his many gifts with his friends and family.  Every special occasion David offered to grill up some meat or bake a pie or whatever new recipe he wanted to try, and it was beyond a doubt the best thing on the table.  His fondest memories were cooking up the food for the tent in The Grove before the Rebels took the field.  David liked the finer things in life, he also loved all things Ole Miss, deep philosophical discussions with his friends Zack, Ben and Anatole, and playing fetch with Cooper the Magnificent, his very loyal companion.

Services will be held at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Homes on O’Neal Road at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023.  Friends may visit one hour prior.  Interment will follow at Finley Cemetery on Hwy 53.  The celebration of life will continue at David’s parents home in Gulfport.

Dear friends and family of David,

I knew David for three years in law school, and you could never meet a kinder soul. He was super intelligent and a fun conversation partner. I'm very sad to hear of his passing and wish you all peace during this trying time.

I was very sorry to hear of David's passing. His presence and insight will be missed greatly at OMS-MISO meetings. He had a keen eye for utility regulation as well as a great memory, and if you were ever going to challenge him on a point, you better have done your homework, or he would gently remind you how you were incorrect. His wit, style and intellect leave a tremendous void and he will be greatly missed.

To David's family and friends, my deepest condolences. David was a great colleague of mine up here in Wisconsin, and we worked on many electric energy industry subjects together, often times seeing eye to eye in matters at MISO and OMS, two entities we professionally were a part of from our respective state Public Service Commissions. His spirit, intellect, wit and enthusiasm for very detailed insight and work is top of the class. I will miss him a lot. We began our friendship at some MISO meetings in New Orleans beginning in 2018, and I remember fondly how he and his crew got me to try some interesting food I was not used to. David was a great guy.

There is now a big void, and I will pray for the family and all of us that the Lord provide necessary healing.

Professional friend and colleague,

David, I´ll tell you exactly what all your friends have been telling me when they hear the news: "There´s no words... are you serious? There´s absolutely no words, man. David? *Our* David??"

There´s so much more we could say. There´s so much more we *want* to say to you, David. But I feel like that quote just about says it all.

You´ll be so, so very missed and for so, so very long, my friend. We love you. We had a lot of fun with you. We all learned so much from you. We´ll catch back up to you someday, though, so you better be ready on the grill and cocktails. I´m feeling rack of lamb?? But you decide.

Until then, we know "the Dude abides"
