David Carr
November 22, 1951 - March 25, 2026
Wellington, Kansas - David Marshall Carr, of Wellington, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family.
David was born the son of Francis and Sarah "Saddy" (Phipps) Carr on November 22, 1951, in Wichita, KS. Generous, compassionate, and good-humored, David devoted himself to his family, friends, and the community of Wellington, where he resided for nearly all his life.
During his freshman year at the University of Kansas, David met the love of his life, Colette Kocour. After graduating from KU in 1973, David and Colette married on August 17, 1973, and moved to the Chicago area. While there, David earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1978. In 1979, David and Colette moved to Wellington, where David worked at First National Bank (now Impact Bank) for 38 years, until his 2018 retirement, serving in multiple executive roles, most recently as Chairman of First Financial Corporation.
Nothing made David happier than his family. He and Colette shared over 56 joy-filled years together. His sons and granddaughters were the center of his universe. He was their biggest fan and cheerleader.
David poured his time and heart into the Wellington community, as a youth sports coach, CYO advisor, and president and board member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Anyone who met David knew he was a passionate Jayhawk. That passion extended beyond KU sports, including volunteering with the KU Alumni Association and serving on the Board of Trustees for KU Endowment. KU recognized his dedication by awarding him a regional volunteer of the year award in 2004.
David is survived by his wife, Colette Kocour of Wellington, KS; sons, Max (Maura Rogers) Carr of Minneapolis, MN; and Wade (Alyson) Carr of Fairway, KS; grandchildren: Frances Carr of Minneapolis, MN; Lauren Carr, Hannah Carr, and Emily Carr of Fairway, KS; sister, Sarah Carr of Colorado Springs, CO; and cousin, Kip (Samantha Watters) Altman of Bradenton, FL.
