David Y. Choi, age 50, of New Canaan, CT, passed away on March 26, 2023 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He leaves behind his wife Hannah of 18 years and three beloved children: Henry 13, Abby 10, and Jack 10.
David was born to Doug and Helen Choi in Ames, Iowa and grew up in Windsor, Connecticut. He attended The Loomis Chaffee School, and was a gifted student and a varsity athlete in both ice hockey and golf in high school and college.
David graduated from Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a degree in Economics and received his J.D. from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. David was a partner at Kurzman, Eisenberg, Corbin, and Lever where he enjoyed a successful career as an attorney specializing in trusts & estates and tax. He was designated Super Lawyer multiple years, a selection made through peer recognition and professional achievement. He had a brilliant legal mind and relished collaborating with his partners, and he was dedicated to mentoring younger lawyers in his firm.
David was happiest spending time with his kids, much of which he did through youth sports- ice hockey and lacrosse. He spent hours coaching and practicing sports with his kids, and sometimes as in the case of lacrosse, learning along with them. David and his family were avid members of the youth hockey community through Darien Youth Hockey Association where David served as volunteer coach and team scheduler over many years and across many teams. He was often tying skates, strapping goalies into pads, assisting on the bench, cheering (loudly) from the stands, and sharing scouting reports and analyses on Darien teams as well as the competition.
David prided himself in helping others in all spheres of his life, and his true joy was in seeing others develop into better versions of themselves, be it as athletes, students, lawyers, and human beings in general.
David is survived by his immediate family: his wife Hannah Kim Choi and their three children; his parents Doug and Helen Choi; his sister Julie Choi and her husband Christopher Stack; his parents-in-law Robert and Nam Kim; sister-in-law Susan Kim Rudsenske and her husband Todd Rudsenske; nieces Blair and Whitney Rudsenske; and brother-in-law Kevin Kim. He also leaves behind a cherished extended family and many friends.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT, with remembrance service to be held at 7:00pm.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please schedule a colonoscopy for yourself and consider a donation in David's name to Friends of DYHA (Darien Youth Hockey Association).

David will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on in so many of the young athletes that he cared so much about developing over the years. It is hard to put into words how special of a guy he was because there is really no one else like him. He cared about helping and teaching ALL kids more than anyone I´ve ever met. He also knew more about hockey than most. Anyone who took the time to get to know David is better for it. He will be missed.
