David Andrew Comer, age 75, a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, VA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 while surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton David and Virginia Griffin Comer, as well as all of his siblings.
David devoted much of his life to serving his community through the fire department and rescue squad. He was a volunteer with Dinwiddie Volunteer Rescue Squad for many years, and was a former chief of Dinwiddie Volunteer Fire Department Co. 1. He enjoyed Civil War reenactments and metal detecting, and was a NASCAR fan. Most of all, David will be remembered as a simple man who loved his family very much.
David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan Ivey Comer; daughters, Cynthia Johnson (Jay), Crystal Summerfield (Kevin), and Timothy Comer (Angie); grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, T.J. Rogers (Mady), Destiny Comer, Miles Johnson, and Timothy Comer. His first great-grandchild, Paisley, will soon be born.
A funeral service will be conducted at Noon on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Smyrna Baptist Church, 18971 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VCU Health Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Center, 11958 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23233.
