David Cook was born in Sarasota, FL on December 21st, 1963. He was a lifelong resident of the Manatee and Sarasota County area. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Cook, son David Cook (Bradenton, FL), mother Betty Cook (Sarasota, FL), sisters Lisa Kalmbach (Sarasota, FL) and Rebecca Wheeler (Vernon, FL). He was preceded in death by his father James (Jim) Cook.

David had a strong passion for serving the community which began in 1978 as a volunteer firefighter for both the Whitfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Longboat Key Fire Department. He held several positions including Fire & EMS Dispatcher and also ECC Supervisor while employed for the Manatee County Emergency Communications Center in 1983 where he was later promoted to operations officer for Manatee County Emergency Management.

David was a charter member of the Manatee County Hazardous Materials Team. He was also appointed to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Hostage Negotiations Team and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Incident Command Team.

He joined Suburban Propane in 1998 where he held a number of positions including driver, area technician, service manager, operations manager and was the distribution center manager for the Southeastern USA at the time of his death. I worked with David in the 1980/90 while he was with EOC. Always cheerful and willing to work out whatever problems arose. His service to the local communities was 24/7.

Dear David,

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. Although I didn't know him, reading about his career and service to the community is amazing and very admirable and I thank him for his service and dedication.

May he rest now in peace and may you continue to make him proud for the man you are. Your dad's presence will always be felt and his love will continue to surround you.

Holding you close in my thoughts as you navigate through this difficult journey and hoping you find peace and strength as you move forward.

With my deepest sympathy to you and all your family,

Rosanne
