David Lynn Covington, 69, passed away in Alma, Michigan. Born and raised in Alma, he spent his life surrounded by the people and places he cherished.
A proud graduate of Alma High School, Class of 1974, Dave was a talented athlete, excelling in both baseball and football. He was named MVP for baseball his senior year, a testament to his skill and dedication to the game.
Dave spent much of his career at Lobdell Emry/Oxford Automotive until the plant closed. He then worked at Pine River Country Club before finding his true calling as a bus driver for Alma Public Schools. He was more than just a driver-he was a mentor, a friendly face, and a supporter of every child who stepped onto his bus. The students affectionately called him "Bus Driver Dave," always saying hi to him when they saw him around.
A devoted Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, Dave loved golfing and fishing in his free time. However, his greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a constant presence at their games, making it a priority to cheer them on whenever he could. If he couldn't be there in the stands, he found a way-often signing up to drive the team bus just so he could watch.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Roxann Covington (Erskine); his children, Ashlie (Scott) Stahl of Alma, Emily (Timothy) Booth of Dewitt, and Logan (Amber) Covington of Dewitt; and 10 cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings, Michael (Maggie) Covington of Midland and Julie (Tim) O'Boyle of Saranac.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Joyce Covington.
Dave never met a stranger-he loved to talk to anyone who would listen. He had a heart for kids, not just his own grandchildren but any child who needed encouragement. He spent countless hours at youth sporting events, simply because he loved to support and uplift the next generation.
In memory of Dave, please honor his spirit by attending a kids' game and cheering them on-just as he always did.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11:30 am at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4th from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alma Sports Boosters.
