David L. Cox, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away on November 30, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton following a brief heart attack and resulting complications. His passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, yet his legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering devotion remains an enduring gift.

Born on September 23, 1943, at Twin City Hospital to Robert L. and Doris M. (Patterson) Cox, Dave grew into a man defined by genuine warmth and a tireless enthusiasm for life. He never stopped moving and found deep joy in the outdoors—whether fishing, traveling, cutting wood, or working in his garden. He loved people wholeheartedly and never met a stranger, always eager to listen, connect, and share stories.

Dave met the love of his life, Esther Mae, at a bowling alley, and the two were married on March 22, 1964, at First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. Their marriage of more than 61 years was rooted in steadfast devotion, friendship, and a shared commitment to family and faith.

For 30 years, Dave was a dedicated employee of Reeves Manufacturing before retiring. He later worked for Allied Machine and Engineering and, since 2005, served as a valued staff associate at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. He was also a proud member of the local steelworkers, known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand wherever needed.

A devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Dave served faithfully as head usher for many years. His heart for service touched every part of his life. He loved his family deeply and spoke with pride about his grandchildren to anyone who would listen. Like all of us, he wasn’t perfect but he did his best to live each day with purpose, integrity, and love. Through his example, he taught those around him the importance of serving others and treating people with kindness.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Esther Mae; his sons, David (Becki) Cox, Todd (Cathy) Cox, and Rob (Richie) Anderson-Cox; his sister, Kathy (Phil) Kerr; his cherished grandchildren, Kameron (Laura), Tyler, Nicole and Kyle Cox, and Chris Newsome; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He lived a life full of strength, humor, and compassion, and now rests in the presence of the Lord he loved. His memory will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on December 7, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. A service celebrating Dave’s life will be held in the First United Methodist Church on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ryan Cockrill officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Dave’s memory may be directed to either First United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
