David Culver, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away at home on June 28, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA, at the age of 70. Born on March 5, 1954, David's life was a testament to his generosity, humor, and creativity, which touched the lives of everyone he knew. For decades he was known as "The Rev" short for Reverend.
David grew up in Rochester, NY where he attended Brighton High School, played varsity ice hockey, started his first band, Uncle Sam, and started his television career as a production assistant at WXXI-TV while still in high school. He attended Grahm Junior College in Boston, MA for television directing and Rochester Institute of Technology for cinematography.
His professional goals led him to Philadelphia where he was senior producer/director at Westinghouse Broadcasting and General Manager at Center City Film and Video. He shared his knowledge and experience with students as a Professor at Drexel University. David's legacy in the industry is characterized not only by the projects he led but also by the countless individuals he mentored along the way.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was an amateur radio operator achieving the highest level of license as an "extra", known by his call sign K3YB. David's love for music played a significant role in his life; he was a talented musician, with a near perfect ability to play any song by ear. He enjoyed playing, producing and listening to a wide variety of genres.
David's quick wit and funny anecdotes were the heart of many gatherings. As creative as he was humorous, David had a knack for storytelling that captivated his audience, whether he was teaching a class, directing a production, or sharing tales with friends and family.
David gave freely of his time, knowledge, and resources, always eager to lend a hand or offer support. His open-hearted nature and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on his community and set an example for all who knew him.
David is survived by his loving wife, Sherri Hope Culver; his daughter, Zoe Culver; and his sister, Trish Ewen. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. They, along with his many friends and colleagues, will miss his warmth, guidance, and the joy he brought to their lives.

I went to Brighton High with Dave we were in the same class. Dave was inclusive of everyone, a good guy that was well liked, funny and always wore a smile. God got a good one for sure.

We waited together at the same bus stop during our Brighton High School years. It´s such a vivid memory and what comes to mind always when I think of Dave. He always had something funny to say in his "nerdy" way.

Our deepest sympathy to Sherri and Zoey! When I was in Kindergarten, Dave would walk me to school. He always had a cheery word to offer everyone. The world has lost an encourager.

I worked with Dave at WROC-TV in Rochester, he was a good friend and a very creative individual. I have fond memories of the NFLP late night production sessions with him and the rest of the crew from the 70's. Dave you will be missed my friend, keep the quad machines in the sky rolling and the DX rolling in on the ham bands. 73 SK K3YB de KA2ENE.

I worked with Dave, or Rev or Reverend, as I usually called him for almost 30 years. He always said I was his favorite sales guy and I always said he was my favorite customer, and I meant it. Our relationship went much deeper than that, though, and we had many chats over the years about family (my only daughter is also a Zoe), guitars, working at Drexel, piloting planes, traveling to the UK, etc. I am SO disappointed that we won't get to meet in person, as we had discussed him flying out to Indiana to see me several times recently. He often had me laughing so hard that my colleagues wondered what I was doing. His sense of humor, intelligence, and creativity came shining through always. I miss you, brother. My condolences to the Culver family.

Ever since our earliest days at WROC-TV in Rochester, NY Dave was a buddy, an inspiration, and a friend. We were friends for 50 years and together we made the scary move from the 68th TV market to KYW-TV in Philadelphia, the 4th TV market. Dave then moved to Center City Video because he was always brave enough to go first and I was happy to follow.
Dave was a very generous spirit. There is no greater example of this than the time he flew me in his plane from South Jersey to Rochester, NY to see my dying father in the hospital.
I will never forget that generosity. RIP "Rev"

This loss is heartbreaking. No one got more out of his 70 years than Dave. He checked every box: producer/director, professor, mentor, musician, ham radio enthusiast and his favorite, father.
